PRESS RELEASE

On the Faces of Asia Culture Parade & Arts Exhibit & Traditional Music Performance

At the 8th Annual Asian Heritage Street Celebration

On Saturday, May 19, 2012 in San Francisco

2012 AHSC postcard Front Final

May is known as Asian Heritage Month to acknowledge the contributions of the Asian communities to the State of California. Once a year, the AsianWeek Foundation organizes a street fair in an Asian business district to celebrate the recognition by the State. The Asian Heritage Street Celebration (AHSC) is rotated among Asian business districts in the City. However, for the last three years, the AHSC at Civic Center/Vietnamese Little Saigon have been very successful; therefore, this year AHSC returns to the neighborhood again. The 8th Annual AHSC will be on Saturday, May 19, 2012.

Au Co Vietnamese Cultural Center collaborates with the AsianWeek Foundation to organize the Face of Asia Culture parade for the Street Celebration. The parade’s purpose is to present the distinctiveness of each people’s culture. Last year Street Celebration and parade attracted lots of public media interests and almost a hundred thousand visitors. This year, it is very likely that there will be many more representatives from the media; especially the SBTN will be present to carry the event on their channel to all Vietnamese communities over the US.

Therefore, we are asking the participation of all community organizations as well as all members of the Vietnamese community so that our party will be the largest group of the parade, showing the public of our strength and great contribution, as well as introducing the beauties of the Vietnamese culture and traditions. Please contact Ms. Hang at 415-828-4754 to register. Registration deadline is May 10, 2012.

Participation in the parade and street fair is free. Those who take part in the parade should be dressed in cultural attires, including minorities’ traditional costumes and outfits (women must be dressed in áo dài; men could be in dress suit if no traditional dress available). Each community organization should have their own organization name sign/banner in English and must have at least six participants. Individual participant will be grouped with Au Co Center. While marching in the parade, participants can bring items representing Vietnamese traditional culture such as flags, fans, round sunshades, gongs, drums, etc.; can perform traditional dances and music or qilin dance. Please confirm if you will bring these items or will perform during the parade when register your participation.

In addition to the parade, Au Co Center also has an art exhibition and traditional music showcase inside Samsung Hall of Asian Art Museum from 12:00 to 2:00. Entrance to the Asian Art Museum is free.

Thank you for your cooperation. Best regards.
